Federal Labor’s massive battery announcement
Federal Labor will today announce a national target of 1 million battery storage systems in Australia by 2025
A Shorten Labor Government will back the target with a Household Battery Program, which will offer a $2,000 rebate for 100,000 households on incomes of less than $180,000 per year, as well as low-cost loans for batteries.
The Smart Energy Council will keep you updated with more breaking news as it’s released.
Comment from Smart Energy Council CEO John Grimes
The Smart Energy Council strongly welcomes a national target of one million battery storage systems by 2025.
Storing clean renewable energy is the key to unlocking Australia’s renewable energy potential.
The contrast between the Federal Government’s commitment to propping up coal, and the Opposition’s plan to transition to cheap, reliable, clean, renewable energy could not be starker.
Detailed analysis undertaken by the Smart Energy Council has shown that Australia could install 450,000 battery storage systems by 2020.
With battery prices falling and electric vehicle battery manufacturing powering ahead, 1 million batteries by 2025 is achievable.
The Smart Energy Council looks forward to working with Federal Labor to ensure the Household Battery Program delivers quality products, quality installations, public safety and accredited training for installers.
