Solar installers take fight for survival to Premier

06 August 2019, Melbourne: Victorians solar installers will be rallying outside the office of Premier Daniel Andrews on Thursday, stepping up the campaign to fix the rebate scheme before more jobs are lost and businesses go underwater.

Solar installers are calling for the Premier to urgently fix the system, to increase monthly allocations and the broken application system.

This month, the total number of allocations was exhausted within 90 minutes, putting the industry into another month of heavy losses.

The Premier was confronted by a solar installer on ABC radio this morning. The Premier claimed that the reason the rebates had been slowed down was to ensure safety.

You don’t ensure safe installations by sending the industry’s best and most experienced installers broke.

Premier Daniel Andrews had been hit with an email campaign from solar installers, focusing on the impacts of the lack of allocations.

John Grimes, CEO for the Smart Energy Council, said there was real pain and anger within the solar industry in Victoria.

“We’re in close contact with solar businesses owners who are deeply distressed that they could be forced to close, lay off even more workers and incur heavy losses.

“Minister Lily D’Ambrosio has ignored our concerns and blamed business owners. That’s inappropriate blame shifting. If the Minister can’t fix this, we’re taking it to the next level and taking our message to the Premier.
